according to what pat spilled in an interview i helped
conduct in Nov89, YES.

> "They're bearing you up, they're holding you up" that
> make me think of someone being perhaps lifted up to heaven?

are exactly the lines he mentioned when he admitted that
(in part) the song deals with (paraphrased):

* "the girlfriend i was dating at the time (1986)
* basically made me choose between her and my cat.
* `ok darling, i'll take the cat'.
* shortly thereafter, mo died." (mo was the cat's name
* as in mo tucker - also in the pat cat timeline was one named
* sterling)

at that point in the interview, pat caught himself from breaking
into tears. in the background in the venue, the Cars tune
"Bye, Bye Love" could be heard. it was an eerie moment.
this interview occurred the night the inner-sleeve picture
for Cult was taken, btw.

well, damnit. the album was released yesterday.
i finally found a 7" of the single last week.
nice production, but i am not knocked out by the tunes.
