Eclectic is one of those oft-overused adjectives employed to describe bands which may not have decided which particular musical genre works for them...But I can think of no better handle for the mind-zapping trio Misterlee who topped the bill at the Labour Club in Earl Street.

Lead singer-percussionist Lee Allatson loves to create the impression that he's a cross between Syd Barrett and The Who's Keith Moon. Using the most minimalist of drum machines and lots of knob-twiddling feedback, he managed to create walls of sound which were definitely not for the MOR faint-hearted. And having toured extensively with him for five years, guitarist Jamie Smith and Michael Oxteby, electric violin/bass, knew how to keep up with him - just!

It came as no surprise they'd supported the mechanically mesmerising Thomas Truax (a wow at the Labour Club recently) with their "serious improvisation" set. Sounds like a crazy gig? It was!
