RE: Gather 'round the pool, it's lyrics night tonight.

Not a Pat lyric exactly; but Pat's modest acceptance of credit reminds me of one of
my favorite lines from Yeats; a Fish like gent in his own right:

"A line will take us hours maybe:
Yet if it does not seem a moment's thought, Our stitching and unstitching has been naught"

This really brings me down to earth - thinking about how truly difficult it is to write a
really great lyric.

I think that Pat's finest lyric is:

'You've got to watch for the exit wounds when girls say yes.'

It's succinct, vivid, sad, violent...with one line, he describes all the   pain, all the damage and all the sadness of a breakup. Yet there is a hint of
sentimentality for simple, pleasant beginnings undertaken with trepidation.

I once told Pat how much I loved that lyric. He thought about it for a second
and replied, 'yeah....I got kinda lucky with that one.'
