Howdy everyone:

Just a thought. I didn't get the overwhelming feel of ringing endorsement when David first announced this possibility of the video. David, Did I perceive that aright? Committing $100 for a good video to someone you know is going to do nice work is one thing. Comitting $100 bucks for some self proclaimed professional with a couple cheap DV's and an iMac is another matter. I've worked in and around that business for a few years and I don't claim to know it all; but I know a couple things

  1. Professionals don't shoot to DV, they shoot to Beta SP
  2. It takes five people to correctly run a rig like this guy described, although this might be why the price is so high.

I'm not saying we shouldn't do it; and I apologize if I've misjudged this guy's abilities or DW's powers of discernment; but for 1400 to 1600 pre-edit,
we ought to be able to get 3 BetaSP's in there with a switcher, combo boom mike and line feeds on the audio to make post editing easier and the ability to print to tape. Professional camera operators and equipment rentals ought to be in abundant, economical, supply in southern Ca.

Hey, if this guy is for real you can have my $100. But if he's some shmo with a handheld and a copy of Adobe Premiere, I'm good for shipping and the cost of the tape. I really think someone who is close to the guy should ask to see some work samples, get some references, etc.

Two more points and then I'll drop it for now. OWNERSHIP. All rights need to be signed over in advance to Pat and/or his outfit; and although he often seems to turn down such things, someone should at least, as a courtesy, inquire
how he feels about this and sample his feelings on what should be done with proceeds in excess of the cost.
