X or Y?

If you look on the EXCELLENT web site (www.adjective.com <http://www.adjective.com> ) of Mr. Whittemore, you will see Pat's signature at the bottom of the first JBC page, followed by what's pretty clearly an X. Being a romantic, I always thought an X stood for a kiss (or love). Anyone want to enlighten us further on this quaint custom? NYC one week from tomorrow! Hopefully the pesticide spraying will be over by then.
