Lot 49 & More

I enjoyed "The Crying of Lot 49" by Pynchon. It's a little obtuse, but all in all a quick read (unlike some of his others appear to be from the book that has to do with, if I remember right, an underground postal system and a society of people who can never find satisfying love. They identify each other by using a secret symbol, which kind of resembles a trumpet. I always thought "Looking for Lot 49" was about Pat losing his copy of the book and trying to find it. Hee, hee.
Also, in Atlanta there has been a recent string of bank robberies in which the lone criminal's getaway vehicle has always been either a bike or a motorcycle. The FBI are calling him "Bicycle Boy!" Perhaps this is the intercontinental doppleganger to Pat's down-the-street "dog faced spawn of a working class Tory" all grown up.... Received on Wed Apr 22 17:58:47 1998
