being a crypto-anal-retentive englishman, I reserve judgement. However, isn't it a bid of an odd and selective, erm, selection from fishcotheque on here? I mean, where are the good ones?

Get It Wrong is (two knock'em'dead clever lyrics aside) IMHO the weakest song on that album and yet it makes it all the way to the compilation.

...Or do the liner-notes explain the selection?

I'm with Ed. The Creation years are not best represented here. I'd be interested in knowing Pat's rationale for these selections. My 15 songs, you ask (or even if you didn't)?

1 Fishcoteque: Lot 49, Chickentown,
2 Big Planet (why the hell is scary spelled wrong anyways?): New Invention, Bad Dream Lover, Hysteria
3 Cult: She's on Drugs, Panic in Room 109 4 Cond. Blue: Racheland (the biggest ommission, I think), Shirley Maclaine, our friends the filth
5 Love Bus: Sweetwater, Whaddya?, Rosemary Davis 6 Illuminate: sixteen years, cute subs, lulu's nightmare, when eno sings, true stories

I know it's 18. I had 21 and that's as far as I'm prepared to cut.

By my count, the JBC have now put out seven compilation albums: Bloody Nonsense, Gift of Music 1, Gift of Music 2, Edward's Closet, Western Family, Draining the Glass, and The Violent Years. Surely this must set some sort of record in the 'ratio of compilations to studio albums' category. Nirvana comes close: 3 studio, 2 comps thus far.

Don't think I'll be picking up Violent Years. Bit disappointed there were no rarities or unreleased tracks (Vodka Girls! add that to my list). $16 Cdn for liner notes is a bit much even for me. Received on Tue Apr 8 11:59:26 1997
