As someone who has listened to both songs (and their albums) extensively, I have to say that I really can't agree with you here. There really is nothing musically similar-- the keys and chord progressions are completely dissimilar. Rythmically, "...Adored" is in simple 2/4 time, while WWTD is in 6/8.
"...Adored" starts out with some neat noise (which I guess you could consider "spooky", though I would tend to say "mysterious" at best) followed by a bass lead-in, guitar scale-solo, and then the big crash and main melody.
WWTD starts with the guitars doing an arhythmic walk through the song's main chord progression while the vocals sing nonsensical vaguely-eastern-european-sounding syllables, followed by the main song, complete with minor-scale guitar line to open.
One might agree with you that they are similar in mood (though I personally thing WWTD is way more erie), but to say that the Stone Roses 'nicked" the opening is a serious stretch.
